AURORA, Colo. -- A suspect in a shooting who was killed by an off-duty police officer at a Colorado church had served time in an Oklahoma prison for assaulting an officer and was recently detained for a nearly three-year-old traffic violation.
Aurora police identified the suspect Tuesday as 29-year-old Kiarron Parker of Denver.
Records show he had a 2009 conviction in Oklahoma for assaulting an officer. Parker was detained in February in the Colorado traffic case. He also served about three years in Colorado in a drug case and was released in 2008.
The mother of New Destiny Center's pastor also died in the shooting Sunday.
Investigators have not said why they think the gunman sped into the church parking lot, crashed into a car and started firing at people who came to his aid.
